The purpose of this newsletter is to share information regarding the Jefferson County JVS.

Dear Students and Families,
It is with great excitement and a deep sense of pride that I welcome you to a new school year at Jefferson County Joint Vocational School! Whether you are joining us for the first time as an incoming junior or returning for your senior year, this year marks a new beginning filled with exciting "firsts" and valuable opportunities for you, for our staff, and for me as your new principal.

Our school is a special place where passion meets purpose, and students gain real-world skills through a wide variety of career-tech pathways while continuing to grow academically and personally. I am honored to be joining a community so deeply committed to student success, hands-on learning, and preparing young adults for the future.

The first few weeks of school can sometimes feel overwhelming with new routines, new expectations, and new experiences. Please know that you are not alone in this transition. Our dedicated staff is here to support you every step of the way. Whether it’s in the classroom, the lab, or beyond, we are ready to guide, encourage, and cheer you on throughout the year.

Together, we are building a future full of promise, purpose, and pride. I look forward to meeting each of you and celebrating your growth, your achievements, and your many "firsts" throughout the year. Let’s make it a great one!

With excitement and support,
Heather A. Hoover

Attendance, Late Arrival, and Early Dismissal

Consistent attendance is essential to student success. Being present and on time each day ensures that students stay engaged, build strong routines, and make the most of their learning opportunities. We understand that there may be times when absences, late arrivals, or early dismissals are necessary. When these situations arise, we appreciate communication and planning to help students stay on track. Together, we can support a positive and productive learning environment for all.

Call Off Procedures

  • When reporting your student’s absence, please call the office before 8:30am.
  • Students arriving late, must stop in the office before reporting to class
  • Students who require an early dismissal should provide a note to the office on the day of dismissal
Additional information on these procedures can be found in the student handbook.

Breakfast and Lunch

We are pleased to announce that all students can take advantage of our Free Meals Program during the 2025–2026 school year. Through the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), all students will receive free breakfast and lunch—no meal applications required. This initiative reduces paperwork for families and staff while ensuring that every student has access to healthy, nutritious meals each day.

Free Health Care

Families with children eligible for school meals may also qualify for free health care through Medicaid or Ohio’s Healthy Start & Healthy Families programs. Coverage includes doctor visits, prescriptions, dental, vision, mental health care, and more.
